Ombre Shooting Stars

Ombre Shooting Stars

I created my Ombre Shooting Stars pattern using the Ombre Galaxy collection designed by Vanessa Christenson for Moda Fabrics as my inspiration.

Vanessa's ombre fabrics all shade from dark to light and back to dark again across the width of the fabric and any of her collections can be used to make this quilt; as can any ombre print.

I wanted to create the illusion of a shooting star using the shading of the ombre prints.

The quilt, which measures 74" square, uses four different colours, while the crib/wall hanging size measures 36" x 44" and uses five colours.

You can use a light or dark background that works with the star colours.

I quilted both versions of the pattern in the same way; with a freehand spiral at the centres of the stars and random wavy lines along the star trails to denote movement. The quilt was quilted in King Tut colours 929 Chariot of Fire and 979 Obsidian. The wall hanging was quilted with 935 Arabian Nights and 961 Canaan.

I used leftover ombre fabrics to make a pieced binding for both quilts.

Kits are available for both the quilt and the wall hanging, or just the pattern. Visit the shop for more information.
