Ombre Squares Quilt - The Sky Ombres One

Ombre Squares Quilt - The Sky Ombres One

As many of you know, I can't resist an ombre fabric and one of my favourite makes over the years has been my Ombre Squares quilt which uses the original ombre fabrics designed by Vanessa Christenson for Moda Fabrics.

The original quilt used the fabrics at random but I've always wondered what the quilt would look like using a more structured order, creating an ombre effect with ombre fabrics.

Enter my Sky Ombres Squares quilt!

This version features the Sky Ombres fabrics designed by Jennifer Sampou for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that the Sky Ombres run across the whole width of the fabric, whereas the original Moda ombres shade back again; so instead of using twenty fat quarters, I've used ten half metres of Sky Ombres and treated each half of each fabric as a separate fabric to make my twenty fat quarters.

I quilted this version in random wavy lines vaguely following the flow of colours and used Marketplace King Tut (1059) which worked perfectly. The wadding was Hobbs 80/20 and I bound the edges with leftovers from the ombres.

Kits to make this version are available in the shop but of course you can use any combination of Sky Ombres.
I've also updated the Ombre Squares pattern (at last!) to include instructions for both versions. The new version is also available in the shop
